Living Choice Qld Senior Tour in full flight

25 August 2004

A great week of senior’s golf has already been played and the stage is set for another exciting and successful week of seniors golf in Queensland.

On Monday (9th August) the Tour commenced at Indooroopilly Golf Club where Craig Owen (brother of NZ Simon Owen) and Mike Wilsdon from NSW win with a score of 70 (2 under).

The Pro-Am was followed by the inaugural Qld Legends Dinner where we had interviews with Bryan Smith, Randall Vines, Peter Barry and honoured retired Qld PGA Members John Klatt (40 years at Virginia Golf Club) and David Gardner (35 years at Rockhampton Golf Club).

On Tuesday (10th August) a great event at Jindalee Golf Club was played and Bryan Smith (current Qld Senior PGA Champion) tied with Paul Murray from NSW shooting a 64 (2 under). The Jindalee Golf Club turned on a great day and Members and sponsors all enjoyed the company of the Senior Professionals.

On Wednesday (11th August) the Senior Tour moved to Wolston Park who staged their first PGA Professional event in the history of the Club. Club Vice-President Mary Byrnes thanked and congratulated the Senior Professional for their friendship and assistance given to all sponsors and members on the day. Byrnes also acknowledged the hard work done by the professionals in growing the game back in the 70’s and 80’s to get golf to where it is today. The Pro-Am was won by Paul Firmstone from Qld who shot a 65 (2 under).

On Thursday the Seniors travelled to Mount Tamborine where Rookie Neil Wall from Qld took the honours with Phil Dolby from NSW. Both players shoot a one under par 69. Again the Club embraced the Seniors and all involved were ecstatic with the days play and were planning the 2005 event before the Seniors left.

Week one finished at Helensvale Golf where David Galloway from South Australia, Peter Headland from NSW and Elliot Booth from TAS all shooting 68 (2 under) to share the winners prize pool.

The 11 events (13 rounds) on this years Qld Senior Tour has a $2,000.00 series sponsor in Living Choice and after the first five rounds Qld Senior icon and former Australian PGA Champion Randall Vines is leading from Paul Firmstone and John Clifford.

The Qld Senior Tour will travel to Toowoomba today to City Golf Club and then onto Dalby Golf Club followed by two days at the beautiful Jandowae Golf Club.

Over 54 Senior Professionals are playing the events this year.
